J. Michael Coleman is one of the founding partners of Coleman, Taylor, Klaus, Doupé, Diaz & Torrez, PA. in Naples, Florida. His practice focuses on complex cases involving: bank litigation; construction litigation--involving the representation of general contractors, sub-contractors, owners, design professionals & contractor lien work; commercial litigation; probate & trust litigation; and, computer software related litigation. Michael represents clients in litigation in the Circuit Courts in Collier, Lee, Charlotte, Sarasota and Hendry Counties in the United States District Court in the Middle District of Florida and the Bankruptcy Court in the Middle District of Florida. 

Michael is a member of the Trial Lawyer and Construction Law sections of the Florida Bar, and is admitted to practice in the United States District Courts for the Middle & Southern Districts of Florida, the United States Tax Court and the United States Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit. Michael is an "AV Preeminent® Peer Review Rated” by Martindale-Hubbell® attorney and has been named a “Legal Elite” by Florida Trend magazine, a “Florida Super Lawyer” and one of the Best Lawyers in America. 

In 1998, Michael began practicing with Bill Hazzard and together they focused their practices on business litigation, construction litigation, probate and trust litigation. Michael was admitted to practice in Florida in 1986, when he began his commercial trial practice. He graduated from the Florida State University College of Law with honors in April 1986. While attending law school, Michael was a member of the Moot Court Team and was one of the members of the team, which won the Robert Orseck Memorial Moot Court Competition and the Best Brief award. He was also the runner up in the Administrative Law Moot Court Competition. Michael was awarded: the Order of Barristers; William L. VanDercreck Service Award; the Mary & Nicholas Friedman Moot Court Award; the Bryant Miller & Olive Award for State Constitutional Law; the Alumni Medal of Merit; Phi Alpha Delta - Outstanding Scholastic Achievement Award.  

Since coming to Naples, Florida, Michael has served on numerous civic and business related boards, including: the Naples Area Chamber of Commerce (Board of Directors 1996-2001, Chairman, 1999); Leadership Collier (1994); World Class Collier (1994-1996); Economic Development Council (Government Affairs Committee 1993-95); Chamber of Commerce/Economic Development Council Coalition (Executive Committee, Government Affairs Committee, Local Governance Committee); Curriculum Review Committee Collier County Public Schools; Junior Achievement of Southwest Florida, Inc. (Board of Directors 1994-1997, Business Consultant 1990-1994); Sunrise Children’s Foundation, Inc. (Founding Member and Board of Directors 1995); Sunrise Academy Private School, Inc. (Board of Directors 1992-1995, President 1995); the Optimist Club of Naples (Board of Directors 1989-1995, President 1993) and the Florida State University College of Law, Board of Visitors (2012-2014).

Michael graduated from Florida State University in 1981 and received a Master of Science degree in 1983. He was born in Savannah, Georgia.
